# Resume a session

> Continue a paused session from where the agent stopped.

Resumes a previously paused session. The agent picks up exactly where it left off.

**Returns** `202 Accepted`. The resume command is delivered asynchronously.

## Notes

* Resuming a session that is already `running` is accepted (`202`) and safe.
* You can also resume a paused session implicitly by [sending a message](/agents-api/sessions/send-messages): the platform auto-resumes before delivering the message. This applies to `paused` sessions only. Messages to a [`queued`](/agents-api/observe-and-steer#queued-sessions) session are buffered until it starts.

## Errors

| Status | Cause                                                                                                                  |
| ------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `404`  | Session not found, or you don't have access.                                                                           |
| `409`  | The session is [`queued`](/agents-api/observe-and-steer#queued-sessions) (nothing is running yet) or already finished. |
